Gundega is tired from all the questioning at the police station. When she found the old torn chair, she didn’t think it would cause her trouble. It’s already almost evening: the whole day has gone by in a state of alarm and fear. Into the room come all three inspectors, bringing with them the chair.

‘Here you are, you can have it back,’ says Chief Inspector Graudiņš. ‘This isn’t the right chair, although it’s very similar.’

‘How good it is to hear that,’ Gundega sighs in relief. She doesn’t at all want to get a criminal record.

‘Inspector Buļš and Inspector Ludboržs will take you back,’ Chief Inspector Graudiņš says, still in a grim tone. ‘Thank you for your patience!’

He puts on his hat and goes out of the room.

Gundega goes back to Viktor’s house in a police car.

‘It was terrible,’ Gundega says to Viktor and Ināra.

Ināra makes Gundega tea, and they all sit around a table and comfort Gundega.

‘But now, at last I feel relieved. It was a horrible, anxiety-filled experience. The police station was so grim!’

‘It’s good that it’s all over,’ Ināra says, sighing in relief.

‘Well, what a naughty chair,’ says Viktor. ‘It likes adventures!’
