Gundega gets out of the taxi and carries the chair into Viktor’s workshop.

Gundega and Viktor make small talk. Viktor thinks that Gundega is a very nice lady. Then they take a look at the chair. Viktor promises Gundega that he will soon make a list of the work to be done and give her a quote.

As Gundega has travelled a long way, Viktor invites her to his house. Gundega agrees, and they go to Viktor’s house. Viktor’s wife Ināra is waiting for them with tea and sandwiches.

‘Ināra, this tea is very good!’ says Gundega.

‘It’s an old family recipe,’ says Ināra, and goes to the kitchen. She quickly returns and puts a package of green tea and an exercise book on the table. ‘My grandmother made tea blends herself. She wrote down the recipes in this exercise book.’

Gundega takes a look at the exercise book. Its pages are old and yellow, but the handwriting is beautiful.

‘That’s really wonderful!’

‘Ināra’s family like to preserve their old traditions,’ Viktor says. ‘By the way, Ināra’s family has an interesting history too. During World War II, Ināra’s grandmother’s brother Jēkabs emigrated, but her sister Marija stayed in Rēzekne to wait for her husband. Her husband had still not returned home from the war. Her brother went to the West with his family. Marija waited for a letter, but she didn’t receive one.’

‘I would like to know what happened to them,’ says Ināra. ‘But there’s no information anywhere about them.’

‘There definitely will be somewhere!’ Gundega exclaims. ‘The right things always find us – just like I found Viktor’s advertisement!’

All three of them laugh.
